Electricals

One of the common items we find in the blue bin that we cannot accept is small electricals. Whilst these can and should be recycled (or even better than that, reused, repaired or repurposed), they should never be placed in the recycling bin at home. Small electrical items and batteries, pose a huge fire risk to our collection crews and to you, the public.

Household products such as kettles and toasters, and larger items such as TVs and fridges / freezers can be taken to Raynesway (remember to book before you visit). If you are unable to get to Raynesway or need some help to dispose of your fridge / freezer, a bulky waste collection can be arranged for £13.51 per item too.

Electrical retailers such as Currys now offer recycling schemes when purchasing new products. Their repair team will harvest any working parts that can then be used again in other products. Anything else then gets sent on to be broken down and recycled elsewhere. If they come across products that are still in good working order, they are donated to charities for them to be rehomed after being refurbed, cleaned and tested. They’ll even give you at least £5 off an eligible purchase when you recycle old tech in store, and it doesn’t need to have been purchased from them!

Electrical items can also be easily donated to charity or can be dropped off at nearby supermarkets. The best place to check your nearest recycling point is by visiting the Recycle your Electricals website, where you can also find lots more on the benefits of recycling electricals.
