Cooling towers are heat removal devices used to transfer process waste heat to the atmosphere.
They are used to provide cooled water for air-conditioning, manufacturing and electric power generation.
The main purpose of these regulations relates to the control of legionella and the investigation of legionnaires’ disease.
You must notify us in writing with details of cooling towers and or evaporative condensers except where they contain water that is not exposed to the air and the water and electricity supply are not connected.
Registration is free of charge.
Details of the definition of cooling towers or evaporative condensers can be found in the Cooling Towers and Evaporative Condensers Regulations 1992.
