Education other than at school policy
Sometimes children are unable to attend full-time mainstream or special schools, and need a different approach to their education. This can be for a variety of reasons, including illness and exclusion. In these instances, the local authority provides appropriate educational setting for each child, based on their circumstances and needs. This could be within a hospital setting, alternative provision location or other setting.
Our education other than at school policy gives detailed explanation on how these circumstances are determined and supported.
Please note: elective home education falls under a different set of guidelines. More on this can be found on our Elective home education page.
