Cost of adult social care services
You are usually expected to pay towards the cost of your care and support. However, you may be eligible for financial help depending on your savings and income.
If your savings and investments are less than £23,250, you might qualify for support with some or all care costs.
If you have savings over £23,250, please visit our paying for your own care section to find out how we can support you with your care needs.
After your care assessment
Once we’ve assessed your care needs, we may recommend a mix of services.
Some services:
- are free
- can be partly or fully funded, depending on your financial assessment
- must be paid for in full by you
The cost of services changes each year.
Free services
You may get some services for free, depending on what’s available and your situation. These can include:
- Help from volunteers in your community
- Equipment that costs less than £1,000
- A temporary stay in a care home after hospital discharge (NHS-funded community bed)
Services you may get help to pay for
You might qualify for help to pay for the following services, depending on your financial assessment:
- Respite care (short breaks in a care home)
- Carelink (personal safety alarm)
- Home care arrangements
- Personal assistants
- Residential care homes
We will look at your income, savings, and property to decide how much you should pay.
If you choose not to share your financial details
If you do not want to complete a financial assessment, you will be expected to pay the full cost of any services you receive.
